ok so i just want to address something here
something ive noticed happening far too much now.

this morning i opened my inbox to see some new job adverts and such
one that got my attention was for a childrens illustration about uniforms and more.
they were offering £50 for 3 illustrations with 30 variations.
WOAH
WOAH WOAH
back up a sec
30 variations, for £50?
ARE YOU MAD!?
do you understand how long this would actually take to do?

im annoyed and outraged that people seem to think this is viable
that offering such low prices is "OK"
NO
FLAT OUT NO, IT IS NOT OK!

please go and take a reality check and just think about what you are asking for, and what you are offering, you think artists just fart it out in seconds? you think drawing doesnt take any time at all? do you think we dont eat and dont need to survive?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!?

would you take a job where you wage per hour was roughly £0.50p? or even £3?
NO, of course not, its not worth the stress youl be put under and not worth the hastle.
So, if you wouldnt take it, why should the artist take it?
you see my point?
are you starting to understand here?

being an artist of any sort is a JOB, we have JOBS, we DO STUFF
some of us, even have to take up EXTRA jobs because being an artist just isnt cutting it right now, be it because no one is looking or because people like you are assuming its ok to pay us peanuts, no thanks, i get more per hour, infact double from Mcdonalds.
THAT ALONE IS A JOKE

this isnt the first time iether, i responded to a job advert to do an animation for a music video, it was a £250 offer, at first, yes this was feasable as it was just 3 minutes and they never fully specified what they wanted, once i got the reply, i was told its 30-40 full painted illustrations at a high res, for £250 ...
Im sorry, but wut?

30-40 bits of art, drawn like this?
im sorry but i even had to tell them that what they was asking was too much for the price.
it took me over 10 hours to do that picture, minimum wage for me in the UK is £6.30 per hour, this if what i would be paid in any low end job like KFC, Mcdonalds, and even supermarket checkout work, with how long that would have taken, minimum wage was pennies and they wanted it done in 2 weeks.
i would have gotten little to no sleep to get it done in time, for £250, its not worth it, maybe stick another 0 on the end of that, then itd be worth the stress.

im sick and tired of this happening to people, not just me but others also.
this is not Viable, this is not OK

"Oh can you help me make a comic and such, there is no pay, but it will get you noticed!"
NO, FUCK OFF
comic pages take a long time to do, people spend MONTHS on one chapter, and you expect me to do that and not get paid?
no thanks
I can get noticed myself, the internet is vast and ever expanding as long as i keep uploading, people will see it eventually.
Im still young, im in no hurry, if i was 35 with the skill level i had at 14, then yeah, maybe id be in a hurry, but by the age of 35 id like to see myself be in pro position lapping in at least a thousand.

But that comment is purely based apon the dream of being there sooner, i mean who doesnt wanna be rolling in over 1k a month at 35?

But the reality, you may not be a known artist til 50 or even 60, as for the thousands, well that isnt a full garuntee at all, but if its what you want, then by all means, strive for that!
but be realistic!

Its your dream, dont give up on you goals and just keep striving for it!

returning to topic

But yeah what do i need the publicity payments for?
im fully capable, im not a moron!

"Can you do me some book illustrations? there is no upfront payment, but il make a kickstarter and you can ovver your services and il pay you for the work this way"
OH MY GOODNESS
DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF!?
id have to do over twice the work to get paid for the work you will pay me for?
excuse me?
just no
go away
FAR AWAY

"Hey i love your art! could you do me an illustration for my website? il pay you after"
WARNING BELLS GOING OFF!
look, i get it, sometimes you dont have the money right away, but let me be clear, im at risk doing it this way in the first place, ive had people run off with my work many times in the past because i was nice and said you could pay after.
WELL CONGRATS, because of twats like you, geniun customers now also have to pay upfront from now on because you were an asshole and ran off without paying a penny
ive had people run off with designs to get them drawn again (copied) by someone cheaper so they can use it "officially".
JUST DONT DO IT AND SAVE YOUR MONEY TO COMMISSION PROPERLY

people like this just ruin it for all of us, for everyone involved in the art world.

BUT, its not just commissioners or buyers, there are people who advertise art for very cheap and once people see it, they expect everyone else to charge the same
please artists, wake up and smell your hard work, smell reality, DONT undercharge yourself, not only will you ruin it for you but you also damper it for everyone else.

If you are new, and not overly fab, then thats ok, charge for your quality, and charge correctly.

ALWAYS CHARGE FOR YOUR QUALITY AND TIME, CHARGE CORRECTLY

It has to stop, people need to stop treating artists as doormats, garbage, we arent, we are people too, just like you, and some of us work all day, everyday, we work so hard to get better, to do the work that is demanded, to just get by in life.

THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE ASKING FROM US
think about the reality behind it
think about the time we spend to make something just for you
and yes remember that, a commission is special, asking for something to be made especially for you is special, so why should we be paid far less than others who offer the similar stypes of service.

please stop it.

anyway, im done on this topic, ive had enough!
in other news, my WIP doll no.2 is coming along cutely!
Photo: sanded and refined, she is deffo a 10mm eye girl, so il have to buy a pair to fully confirm that, but 8 is too small and 12 is very doe eyed, so 10 seems like the choice, there a few cracks and chips to fill in and her head is near enough done! =
=D

i hope you are having a nice day ^^

Omgosh. I know the feeling..Especially with people wanting me to draw their story as a comic..It takes me forever just to do one volume.
